Someone untied me on a Tuesday and nobody has mentioned it since.
Nine children, one of whom kept flicking my string. I was there as decoration. I had accepted that. Then the knot went soft in the heat and the fence let go of me and the children screamed in a way that I chose to interpret as applause.
Which is the first genuinely good thing that has happened to me.
A crane operator who waved. Six pigeons that gave me a wide berth and looked personally offended. A window on the fourteenth floor where a man was eating cereal standing up at eleven at night, and we made eye contact, and neither of us did anything about it.
A weather balloon. We did not speak. Different circles.
There is no mechanism. There is no cord. There is no small basket with a person in it who knows what they are doing. There is a cat, and there is the amount of air inside the cat, and so far the air is winning.
I am not worried and I would like that on record.
